Where is Nowhere, GA?

When you search for small towns in Georgia, no matter how you phrase it or where you look, you’ll find pretty much the same quaint little towns in every list, with only a few differences here and there. You should definitely visit those towns. You should see what they have to offer. Some give you history. Others give unique local experiences. And others are landmarks unto themselves. And most of them are bigger than the places we like to go.

You see, Nowhere, GA, isn’t a single place. There are bits and pieces of it all over the state — from small towns with unique local touches to forgotten communities in danger of fading into the past, and many that already have. They’re your ghost towns and dead cities. These are the places we want to find. Their histories are usually tied to that of their prominent families, the state, or even the nation as a whole.

They are the cities that don’t appear on Top 10 lists. They appear on the side of the road on long stretches of highway running through the countryside, the backwoods, or tucked in hollers and hidden corners of the mountains. They appear on old maps and in the dusty pages of history books. Their names are still whispered among the old-timers and local historians, from old rocking chairs and in hushed libraries.

Chances are, you’ve passed through a town or two making up Nowhere, GA, and didn’t even notice. You were on your way somewhere else — to one of the major cities in our beautiful state or even one of those towns featured on someone’s Top 10. Well, don’t worry. We’re going to stop there for you. We’re going to dig around, take a few pictures, and tell you why you should turn around and come back.
